Supersprint Rowing in the year 2001
As Supersprint Rowing expands around the world, 2001 sees the first regional and the first non-UK events in the SuRo calendar.
1st Regional Challenge
On 6th May 2001, the inaugural Regional Supersprint Rowing Challenge took place at Durham in the north of England. The event was coordinated under the auspices of Joe Grey. Originally from Durham School, he was President of the Canadian national rowing federation, Rowing Canada Aviron, for a number of years before returning to Durham, and setting up the SuRo Challenge. Sadly Joe passed away in mid-April of 2001. Sir Steve and Lady Ann Redgrave presented the prizes, and Tyne Tees TV provided television coverage.
Supersprint Rowing overseas
Regional and National Challenges are being planned around the world. Already organisers in fifteen countries are talking to SuRo about holding events.
Supersprint Rowing in London
Another Supersprint Rowing Grand Prix is expected to take place in London on 2nd July 2001: Great Britain versus The Rest of the World, provided that restrictions on the movement of vehicles (introduced to protect animals against Foot & Mouth disease) have been lifted. Check back here for more details in June.
Last year's racing
The second Supersprint Rowing Grand Prix was held at the magnificent new rowing arena which is being built by Eton College near Windsor in England. Full details are stored here in the website.
