Supersprint Rowing is a new form of rowing competition, designed for spectators and television viewers. The format is described under Event Structure.
The new concept is already transforming the enjoyment provided by the sport of rowing, as well as multiplying the benefits which are offered to business partners.
Highlights of the first Supersprint Rowing Grand Prix in 1999 were shown on television around the world. The second Grand Prix, held on 14th October 2000, shortly after the Sydney Olympic Games, was shown in 120 countries. This allowed rowing clubs and national federations to offer top-class TV exposure to advertisers and business sponsors *.
Supersprint Rowing brings many new dimensions to the sport including the involvement of three men and two women in every competing team. Spectators and TV viewers get to know the faces and the personalities involved - and with men and women appearing together, the races and interviews are different from any other sporting event. This is just one of many ways in which the format is designed to attract and retain new audiences. See Event Structure for more details.
Supersprint Rowing appeals to the many participants and followers of traditional rowing events. It also retains the special ability of rowing to attract interest at senior levels in business. So the exposure offered by Supersprints is especially valuable and far-reaching.
Some events are for national teams only, while others have separate competitions for Elite Teams, Universities and Schools.
Over the coming years a world series of events will be developed, with a Supersprint Rowing Grand Prix on every continent, modelled on Formula 1 Grand Prix motor racing. Top international competitors will be able to appear at every venue on the Grand Prix circuit, scoring points in the annual World Championship.
* Details of advertising opportunities and exposure are defined by the Supersprint Rowing organisers, so that sponsors of the events and the competing teams can all benefit.
